The four strokes are swum over varying distances ranging from 25m to 1500m. In competition, the distances available for the swimmer depends on their age group and disability classification.

Wheelchair Sports Victoria currently coordinates a monthly development program at Richmond Recreation Centre on Sunday mornings between 9.00am-11.00am. All coaching programs are facilitated by International Paralympic Classifier Ms Karen Garrard and is assisted by former Paralympian Ms Ellen Steele and Ms Samantha Bloader. The aim of the program is to further develop the technical skills of people that are interested in swimming, which may be for either recreational or competitive purposes.
Swimming Victoria also coordinates various development programs at several clubs throughout Victoria targeting prospective swimmers with a physical disability.To find out more about these programs, refer to the Swimming Victoria website here.
