About the Sport

Rowing is a new sport that is being introduced to the Wheelchair Sports Victoria sport and recreation program in 2010. Rowing is a fantastic sport to improve health and fitness. It is a low impact form of exercise, with very little stress and strain on the joints, therefore making it a suitable form of physical activity for a range of abilities.

Commonly known as adaptive rowing, the term adaptive relates to the ability of the equipment to be 'adapted' for the user and their respective disability. Almost all disability groups can participate, including those with visual impairments, amputees and wheelchair users.

How to get involved

Wheelchair Sports Victoria is introducing a rowing program for people with disabilities in 2010. With the support of the City of Moonee Valley Council, Essendon Rowing Club and Rowing Victoria, the aim is to encourage people with a disability to become actively involved by participating in a monthly rowing development program.
