Lawn Bowls

About the Sport

Lawn Bowls appeals to many people with a physical disability as you are able to compete equally against able-bodied participants.  Whilst it can be played on grass surfaces, it is mainly played on synthetic surfaces as this minimizes damage to the green, thereby making it more accessible.  Bowling arms and people to push the lawn bowler up and down the green are allowed to assist players to compete.

How to get Involved

Wheelchair Sports Victoria coordinates a monthly coaching program at Fitzroy Victoria Lawn Bowls Club, which is attended by a number of players throughout the metropolitan and regional areas.  There are up to 11 coaching sessions held each year on the last Monday of every month between 6.30pm and 8.30pm.

All coaching sessions are coordinated by Mr. Brian Ing, who is the Chairman of the Coaching Committee at the Royal Victorian Bowls Association.

Major Events

Wheelchair Sports Victoria currently hosts the Victorian State Bowls Championships each year. This event is held at the Fitzroy Victoria Lawn Bowls Club from Thursday 1st May until Sunday 4th May.
