The Active Masters Program gets rolling at the inaugural Bowls and BBQ Day

Wheelchair Sports Victoria members took to the greens at the first ever Active Masters Program event on Wednesday 3rd March. With the support of former CEO, Max Kelliher and Program Facilitator Ron Weir, 7 members participated in the first of four activities that comprise the inaugural Active Masters Program in 2010.

According to Sport & Recreation Coordinator, Tim Nield, "the day had a very relaxed atmosphere. Everybody was in good spirits due to the warm weather and friendly environment. Ron Weir who is the coach of the WSV Lawn Bowls Program had organised a range of bowling activities, which allowed the participants to try and learn the fundamental skills of the sport."

The bowls activities was followed by a BBQ lunch and the presentation of awards to conclude the event. The Encouragement Award went to Ivan Risojevic that displayed a strong enthusiasm for Lawn Bowls, despite having minimal experience in the sport. The Most Consistent Bowler Award was awarded to Darryn Coulston, who having travelled from afar from Wondonga to attend, displayed strong skills in the sport.

The Program is a new initiative of WSV that aims to provide a fun environment that encourages members to try something new, socialise with other members and enjoy the benefits of active recreation.

WSV would like to thank Ron Weir for volunteering his time to assist with the delivery of the Active Masters Program.

The second event of the four part program will take place on Saturday 29th May. All members aged 40 years and over are invited to register for the "Day at the Races", which will include lunch and spectating at the Moonee Valley Races.
