Darebin Community & Kite Festival 2010

Wheelchair Sports Victoria (WSV) were involved with the Darebin Community and Kite Festival held on Sunday 14th March at All Nations Park, Northcote. Conducted by the City of Darebin, the festival included a games village, with a myriad of activities being run throughout the day from 10.00-5.00pm.

As part of the games village, WSV conducted interactive 'come and try' style wheelchair basketball at the festival from 11.00-12.00pm. Other activities within the games village included boot camp, inclusive soccer, social sports and fun, handball competition, wheelchair soccer, tai chi, netball clinic, backyard cricket, chess, rockcliming and fitness testing. There was also be a dance tent where the community could learn different styles of dancing including cuban salsa, bollywood, swing, Aboriginal and West African!

The fully accessible and disability inclusive festival provided WSV with great opportunity to promote their programs and work towards increasing the participation rates of people with disabilities in sport and recreation.
