Give It A Go Community Festival

Give It a Go Community Festival

Wheelchair Sports Victoria participated in the recent Give It a Go Community Festival on Saturday 25 October in Alexandra Gardens in Melbourne. The event showcased more than 35 state sporting associations and activities to primary school aged children, all aimed at encouraging them to get active and lead a healthy lifestyle.

Throughout the day more than 5,000 people were in attendance and more than 1,000 young children participated in a basketball chair, rugby chair, track chair or handcycle. In addition, three of our young Paralympic medallists - Chris Mullins, Bridie Keen and Maddy Hogan - were interviewed on stage and later signed autographs for the thousands of children and their families. Another highlight for our Paralympians was a chance meeting and photo with Australian Olympic legend Cathy Freeman.

Wheelchair Sports Victoria continues to provide the wider community with information and awareness on the range of sport and recreational opportunities for people with a disability, and events such as the Give It a Go Community Festival are important opportunities to promote the great achievements and successes of our members and programs.
