The Shepparton Basketball tournament was held on Saturday 23rd of August & Sunday 24th of August at the Shepparton Basketball Stadium. There were 50 participants involved in the competition, consisting of 7 teams.
Some teams travelled a great distance to participate in the tournament including 3 teams from metropolitan Melbourne, a team from Gippsland, a team from Albury - Wodonga and a team from New South Wales. A local team also participated in the competition.
The tournament brought together a mix of experience players (past Australian Representatives) and some young upcoming players of the future.
Throughout the round robin section of the tournament, the New South Wales Wheelkings dominated, not losing a single game. The other finals spots were determined by goal difference with the Old Fella's Basketball team having the best.
Both Semi Final games were both a struggle for all teams to try and dominate.
In the 1st semi final the Chargers just managed to beat the Old Fella's Basketball team 29 to 25. Whilst in the 2nd Semi final the Wizards kept up with the New South Wales Wheelkings for the first half but then the Wheelkings took control of the game eventually winning 41 to 28.
In the Grand Final the Chargers came out all fired up and took it to the New South Wales Wheelkings and this worked. The Wheelkings ended up in foul trouble and the Chargers played some awesome basketball to win the Grand Final 38 to 18.
The most valuable player of the tournament was awarded to Daniel Deltoso (The Wizards)
